Perfect for mealtimes, this wine can also be enjoyed on its own during moments of pure relaxation. Perhaps try it with our recipe for Feijoada, a classic Portuguese stew, or perhaps white meat or baked fish for something different.

Vila Regia Reserva is a wine of the Douro region. The intense, classic character of this blend reflects the region's richness and superior quality. The wine is ruby in colour, it has soft tannins and well-integrated acidity. It shows rich dark fruits and plums. Once again Portugal has produced a great wine of red and black fruits, with a harmonious finish.

Be amazed at how such a jam-packed-with-flavour wine can just be 12.5% alcohol. Thanks to grapes ripened in the idyllic Douro Valley, and the magic touch of top winemaker Luís Sottomayor. Portuguese wine that gives astounding value for money

The Producer

World-class winemaker Luís Sottomayor first produced Douro Valley's Vila Regina in 1989, long before table wines were being made in the fortified production dominated valley.

The grapes are selected from choice vineyards in the upper Douro and majority are found at altitude.
Luís Sottomayor's aim is to produce bright, lively wines for youthful drinking, quite the opposite to the fortified age-worthy numbers he produces at Sandemans and Casa Ferreirinha.

A balanced blend of 35% Tinta Roriz, 35% Tinta Barroca, 20% Touriga Franca and 10% Touriga Nacional grapes.

The classic Port grapes are harvested and crushed before being fermented at a cool temperature to preserve the aromatics, and vibrant fruit flavours of the grapes. The wine undergoes gentle pumping over to extract a good level of tannin and colour, creating a balanced and fruit-forward wine.

The wine is aged through the winter in stainless steel tanks allowing the blend to settle and marry together before bottling.

The Region

Steep slopes, hot summers, rocky, nutrient-rich soil and history make up the vineyards for the Douro Valley.
Vina Regina vineyards are no exception. Located in the elevated, schist soils of the Douro highlands, the vines and winemakers are well adapted to the scorching hot summers and steep slopes with deep running vine roots. The deep roots draw all the water from the limestone soils and create stability. Vines tend to be lower yielding while creating wines of greater quality. The winemakers understand the land and understand how the use of altitude can combat the heat - did you know for every 100m climbed, on average, the temperature drops by 1C?
