Three generations of the Zuccardi family have presided over the company since it was founded by engineer Alberto Zuccardi in 1963. Planting vines in the Maipu province of Mendoza, Alberto was one of the first producers to experiment with irrigation systems. Fast forward fifty years and current owner Sebastián Zuccardi was awarded with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016 by the International Wine Challenge. Social and environmental responsibility is high on the agenda for this prominent company and initiatives include the protection of over 70 hectares of woodland and 1100 hectares where the native flora and fauna are protected.

Founded by Italian immigrants in the 1920's, De Bortoli is one of Australia's 'First Families of Wine'. This group of 12 family-owned wineries celebrates the rich heritage of Australian winemaking. It wasn't until 1972 that sales of table wine began to overtake fortified wine, so the wines we know and love today are a relatively recent phenomenon.

De Bortoli is still very much a family affair. The third generation are now at the helm, with Darren De Bortoli both MD and overseeing the winemaking, Leanne De Bortoli's winemaker husband Steve Webber, and Kevin De Bortoli the company's viticulturist.

Barbecued Garlic and Herb Mushrooms

Deliciously savoury and with a good hit of garlic, these mushrooms are a robust vegetarian dish. You could go either way with a white or a red but we've tried and tested it with a fruity Shiraz-Cabernet blend from Australia and it really hits the spot. Full recipe

Millefiori Rosso del Veneto Appassimento 2015, Veneto

0 review(s)

Another terrific Italian red wine made in the appassimento style (grapes are partially dried to concentrate flavours before being turned into wine). Here Italian (Corvina) meets international (Merlot) grape varieties. Cherries, dried fruit, chocolate, prunes... it's a bit like Christmas in a bottle, you can enjoy year round

Founded by wine-making legend José Neiva Correia in 1998, DJF Vinhos is located in the Lisboa region which stretches north along the coast from the capital Lisbon. A simple philosophy with an ambitious aim: to transform the rich and diverse Portuguese varieties into top quality wines that are accessible to all. Quality and value for money are key, and the estate even buys in used oak barrels and employ two coopers to take them apart and strip them back to the new wood – as good as new for a fraction of the price. DJF is not short of fans, with more awards than any other Portuguese producer of the last 20 years, including red wine of the year at the IWC and twice Portuguese Winery of the Year in the New York Wine Competition since 2012.

An estate with 60ha covering three of the Roussillon’s key terroirs, Lauriga is known for producing red wines of classic character.

Whilst white and rosé wines are also made, it’s the Carignan and Grenache Noir that are stars here (with the help of some newcomers too, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvédre and Merlot.

Now part of Domaines Paul Mas, this has led to massive improvement in the wines, thanks to investment in both vineyards and winery facilities.

We import two red wines from Lauriga which we’ve chosen for their Roussillon character and terrific value for money.

Chicken and Lentil Salad

Earthy lentil salads or stews match well with similarly savoury, earthy styles of wine. Although we're talking salad, don’t be afraid to try a medium-bodied red such as Pinot Noir or Merlot from Pays d'Oc. If you'd rather stick to whites, Chardonnay tends to cover the required flavour bases. Full recipe
