Alsace

Nestled in to the eastern corner of France, nudging up against the border with Germany, we find the beautiful wine region of Alsace. Despite a historically stormy past, tossed between various ruling factions, the Alsatian vineyards enjoy some of the best weather conditions in Northern Europe, protected by the Vosges Mountains to the west. This unique, sheltered spot allows for the production of rich, ripe white wines, with higher alcohol and fuller body than their Germanic neighbours. You’ll still find the tall green wine bottles with their vaguely Seventies vibe, but the liquid inside is anything but.

Riesling, Pinot Gris, Muscat and Gewürztraminer reign supreme, producing fantastically aromatic, racy wines which pair just as well with the local Alsatian cuisine as they do with exotic Asian spices. When it comes to Alsace one might say: ‘Small but Mighty’.
