About 160 miles east of Cape Town, between the Breede River and the Langeberg mountain range, lies the small farming town of Robertson. The river provides much needed water in these semi-arid conditions and the sheltered conditions thanks to the mountains allows for a very varied range of grape-growing. This backwater was put on the national stage in the 1990s when its vineyards – then a relative cottage industry – started picking up coveted awards. Convinced there must be something in the water, vineyard owners have set up shop there, and now, under the South African sun, some really exciting wines are being produced.
Award-winning, full bodied, spicy Shiraz.
