Sancerre - Pouilly-Fume

Deep in the Eastern Loire Valley nestle the world-famous but diminutive white wine vineyards of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. Sitting on opposite banks of the river Loire on chalky limestone soils, the two areas share the Sauvignon Blanc grape (along with Pinot Noir for red and rosé Sancerre) but subtle differences come into play, with the wines of Pouilly-Fumé on the east bank producing slightly more aromatic styles, some with that tell-tale smoky or 'fumé' aroma.
