Southern Rhone

The sun-drenched Southern Rhone valley is home to the famous red wine appellations of Chateauneuf-du-Pape (also made in to a rather delicious white), Gigondas and Vacqueyras, along with lesser-known but equally delicious cru of Tavel, producing very serious, full bodied rosé wines, and Lirac, a great value appellation with rich but generally slightly lighter styles than the other cru. Large swathes of the region also produce the generic Cotes du Rhone and the more specific Cotes du Rhone Villages wines - which tend to be more approachable, easy-drinking styles offering good value for money.
