Wine's biggest success story of the past decade or so, Prosecco just seems to become more and more popular. There are several reasons for this, but incredibly easy, enjoyable drinking coupled with virtually unbeatable value are key.

Prosecco comes from the Veneto region of North Eastern Italy, with the best vineyards planted on steep hillsides. Capable of real finesse and character, those wines with the DOC or DOCG designation are of superior quality.

Up to 2009 Prosecco was used to refer to the grape variety too; now that’s called Glera. This avoided the confusion with the DOCG area of Valdobbiadene sharing the same name as the wider area’s grape variety.

Less dry and more fruity than the Champagne grape varieties, Glera shows no sign of dropping off in popularity.
